I have a dvd remote for my home theatre system and its taken quite a bit of abuse from the times its dropped, and because of that it has problems functioning. When I put it in the freezer for more than thirty minutes it begins to work as if new.

Where can I recycle an old stereo?

TronBlaster asked:

It’s one of those basic component systems with two speakers, and a console with a three-disc changer, a radio and two cassette decks. It’s broken. I tried to take it to Goodwill but they would not accept it. gcycle.org does not say anything about home electronics for my zip code. I don’t want to just dump it in a landfill but I’m getting tired of hauling it around in the trunk of my car. Any ideas?
zipcode is 21228

how to connect laptop to cheap surround sound/home theater system?

triggacitylad asked:

i have a toshiba satellite latop, that has an S-Video connect. my cheap dvd player/surround sound/home theater system has an S-Video connect as well. the dvd player “thing” has the connection on the back. the player connects to a 1-piece amp/sub through six plugs and connects to 5 speakers through plugs off of the amp/sub. but there is no screen on the dvd player to figure how to play the music coming from the laptop. im trying to avoid connecting the system to a tv, and going that route, just trying to play music from my laptop through my surround sround system. i have the s-video cord and misc a/v cords, but connecting the two electronics through just the s-video cord does nothing, music plays through the laptop speakers still, and not through the surround sound system.

How do I restore an OnQ home automation and security system after the RAM was cleared?

Filed under: Other - Electronics — Admin @ 11:00 pm
Digital Squire asked:

I would like to know how to restore a configured home automation and security system. The system combines a programmable security system made by OnQ and controlled lights, electrical hardware, and outlets made by X-10. The system has 2 collections of stored user settings: EEPROM and RAM.

Among other things, the RAM keeps track of the current date and time, as well as the event log of tripped sensors and user code entries. Other things, such as user codes, device and code names, security and phone dialing settings, as well as all customized programs and buttons remain intact when the RAM is reset.

When the RAM is cleared, more configuration settings than just the items mentioned above are lost. The system is currently unable to control most (but not all) of the lights and other electronics. They can no longer be turned on or off through programs or by manually initiating a command on the door entry panel. I need to determine what specific settings were lost when the RAM was cleared.

What’s the best way to connect all my HD electronics?

JW asked:

I’m a newbie & was hoping someone can help me out. I have digital cable from Time Warner. I also have a Samsung Plasma & a Denon home theatre which are brand new. I haven’t gotten any of the cables yet & was wondering what I would need. From what I read, I would need 3 HDMI cables – TV out/Receiver in, DVD player out/TV in & DVD player out/Receiver in. Do I need a 4th to connect my cable box to my TV? Is that too much? Is there a simpler (& cheaper way)? I’m also reading I’ll need an extra audio cable to connect from the DVD player to the receiver. Can anyone confirm? If so, what type of audio cable do you recommend? & lastly, I see HDMI cables range from $10 to $100. Is there really a difference? Appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Are there any solar cell phone and iPod chargers out there that are compatible with ALL cell phones?

Filed under: Other - Electronics — Admin @ 12:00 am
P8ntBallerDs asked:

Most solar cell phone and iPod chargers that i’ve found are only compatible with Motorola or other expensive phones. I have a Sprint Sanyo cell phone. And since I am interested in purchasing one, I would like it to work with my products. Also, I’m on a budget, but please leave me whatever suggestions you have. Thanks!
