DLP’s will never become extinct, unless someone else comes with a better technology. DLP is currently the only way to create a large image beyond 120″ and the most colors.

Plasma and LCD’s are approaching to DLP capabilities, but production costs are still high. In 5 years, we will see today’s $50,000 TV’s become sub $5000.

As for rear projection DLP TV’s, we will probably start to see 3-chip DLP systems, which can produce trillions of colors and no rainbow effect. We will see 3-chip DLP projectors under $5000 in 5 years.

In 5 years, 720p will be considered entry level TV’s and we will start to see 1080p and higher resolutions. There was display technology at CES that displayed 1440p resolution.
