What’s the best way to connect all my HD electronics?
JW asked:
I’m a newbie & was hoping someone can help me out. I have digital cable from Time Warner. I also have a Samsung Plasma & a Denon home theatre which are brand new. I haven’t gotten any of the cables yet & was wondering what I would need. From what I read, I would need 3 HDMI cables – TV out/Receiver in, DVD player out/TV in & DVD player out/Receiver in. Do I need a 4th to connect my cable box to my TV? Is that too much? Is there a simpler (& cheaper way)? I’m also reading I’ll need an extra audio cable to connect from the DVD player to the receiver. Can anyone confirm? If so, what type of audio cable do you recommend? & lastly, I see HDMI cables range from $10 to $100. Is there really a difference? Appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Connect all your peripherals (cable box, satellite receiver, VCR, TiVO, DVD player(s), game console etc.) to the AV receiver (Denon) and only hook the receiver to the TV. That way all your controls run through the AV unit. ~
The only real difference in signal cables (HDMI, component, S-video etc) is the price. As long as the shielding is OK (they are all coaxial cables) you’ll be fine.
From your receiver to your loudspeakers use 14 gauge wire. Monster cables are a rip off of the unwary. I bought a 100′ roll of 14 gauge speaker wire for my 7.1 surround system (Pioneer Elite and 60″ Pioneer rear projection)
